Maha Shivratree 2009


We can now start to see pilgrims walking on the road, roads and temples decorated and tents set up to serve pilgrims. Maha Shivratree is the Great Night of Lord Shiva. Maha Shivaratri is celebratedLord Shiva on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (February or March) every year. On this auspicious day, devotees fast. This year, Maha Shivratree will be celebrated on Monday 23rd January 2009. Devotees mostly Hindus will go to Grand Bassin by foot, car or bus. Here are some tips for devotees visiting Ganga Talao:

1. Wear a white cloth for good visibility at night.

2. Take your offerings with you while leaving the sacred lake.

Latest News: Friday, February 13, 2009 – Huge Traffic Jam from Vacoas to La Marie at 21.30 to 00.30. It might take around 5 hours to go there from Vacoas.

Saturday, February 14, 2009-Very Huge Traffic jam as from La Louise. At around 22.00, the police force is even recommending to devotees not to come to Grand Bassin as the parking space are full. The situation can become more flexible in late midnight.
